The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (MCHF) is a Section 501 ©(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and propagate the history, traditions and culture of the US Marine Corps (USMC) as well as to educate all Americans in its virtues. The MCHF supports scholarly research and study, underwrites public education activities and is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the culture and heritage of the Marine Corps. In 1999, the MCHF undertook a major new project to further fulfill its mission -- the capitalization, construction and support of a new National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC) located at Quantico, Virginia just south of Washington, DC and astride Interstate Highway 95, the nation?s major north to south roadway. The NMMC opened on November 10, 2006, in a ceremony officiated by the President of the United States. More than 2.5 people, including 129,000 students participating in formal and informal visits, have visited the NMMC since then.
