The main Union army\, beset by uncertainty and relentless Confederate attacks\, found itself struggling to coordinate its scattered corps. The VI Corps\, under Major General John Sedgwick\, was ordered to push through Fredericksburg and join the main force an assignment that would lead them into their own private hell.
