SUMMARY:Winter EMT Course
DESCRIPTION:The EMT course prepares students for certification as both a Virginia EMT and a National Registry EMT. This program provides the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills required to respond to medical and traumatic emergencies in the pre-hospital setting.\n\nStudents will be trained in all aspects of pre-hospital basic life support as defined by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) curriculum. Instruction covers patient assessment\, airway management\, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)\, bleeding control\, shock management\, medical and trauma emergencies\, childbirth\, and safe transport of patients.\n\nThe course combines classroom lectures\, interactive discussions\, and scenario-based simulations with practical\, hands-on training using medical equipment and manikins. Students will also complete clinical and field internship hours\, giving them the opportunity to gain real-world experience under the supervision of certified EMS providers.\n\nUpon successful completion\, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam\, meeting the requirements for both state and national EMT certification. This certification opens the door to careers in fire and rescue departments\, EMS agencies\, hospitals\, security services\, and other healthcare environments.
