The Riverside Center will be a site of celebration on October 14, when area business and civic leaders gather for the ninth annual
Chamber Goodwill Awards.
Even as the recession lingers, members of the Fredericksburg Region’s business community continue to stretch their resources to improve the area’s quality of life. Now Chamber members have a chance to give a tip of the hat to their colleagues to who donate money, time and volunteer hours to area nonprofit organizations.
The event, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and sponsored in part by Rappahannock Goodwill Industries, recognizes outstanding corporate giving in the Fredericksburg Region.
“We in the Fredericksburg Region are especially blessed with a business establishment that is both industrious and generous,” said Woody Van Valkenburgh, president and CEO of Rappahannock Goodwill Industries and chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. “Not only do these entrepreneurs keep our economy rolling, but they also give of their time and resources to help those in need and produce a civic culture of which we can all be proud.”
The centerpiece of the event will be the presentation of the 2010 Goodwill Awards. The awards go to businesses – nominated by their colleagues – that have contributed significantly to the nonprofit community through financial gifts, in-kind donations of goods or services or sponsorship of employee volunteerism.
The Mary Washington Hospital Foundation will also present the Lawrence and Martha McMurtry Award for Excellence and Innovation in Community Health and Wellness.
