Join us for a guided coffee tasting from our local partners at Hyperion Espresso, followed by an exploration of Michelle Craig McDonald's Coffee Nation, which reveals how America's profitable coffee trade contradicted its ideals of independence. McDonald traces coffee from Caribbean plantations to colonial America, showing that by the 1830s, this booming import created deep economic ties to Latin America that the young nation depended upon- but could never escape.
