Worker Classification: Independent Contractor vs. Employee October 1, 2026, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm A business might pay an independent contractor and an employee for the same or similar work, but there are key legal differences between the two. It is critical for business owners to correctly determine whether the people providing services are employees or independent contractors. By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to: - Define employee and independent contractor - Identify the categories of evidence used to determine worker status - Explain the use of Form SS-8, Determination of Worker Status for Purposes of Federal -Understand employer tax responsibilities
