Description
The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation will hold two showings of Stanley Kubrick’s Oscar nominated film “Full Metal Jacket” on the giant screen at the National Museum of the Marine Corps' Medal of Honor Theater on Saturday, March 2 and Saturday, April 6 at 11:00 AM. Adapted from the novel “The Short-Timers,” the movie first follows a platoon of Marines through their boot camp experience under the command of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (R. Lee Ermey) during the Vietnam War. The story continues as Private Joker (Matthew Modine), one of the recruits, covers the war as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes, focusing on the Tet Offensive. The screenings accompany the museum’s latest display of “Full Metal Modine,” a photographic exhibition of images captured by Modine during the filming of the movie. The exhibit offers a rare glimpse into the making of one of the most famous war films of all time. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased in advance online. The movie is rated R and is not suitable for younger audiences. Admission to the Museum and parking are always free and open to the public, no base access required.
