Description
Join Dr. Gaila Sims, FAM’s Curator of African American History and Vice President of Programs and Interpretation, on a fun field trip to Washington, DC! Before joining the FAM, Dr. Sims spent a summer at the Smithsonian, where she was the American Food History Project Curatorial and Programming Intern. She spent several months learning about the National Museum of American History’s FOOD exhibition and building relationships with the museum’s Food History curators. To thank our community and provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the inner workings of our nation’s museums, join Dr. Sims and the FAM staff for a full day of museum fun! We’ll gather at the FAM in the morning of Saturday, June 28th and head to our nation’s capital city. We’ll start in the FOOD exhibit, where Dr. Sims will share some insight into the exhibition’s major themes and most exciting objects. Following lunch in the museum café, we’ll visit a few other galleries, including the ever-popular First Ladies exhibition, with some free time for individual exploration. From Dr. Sims: “As many of my friends can attest, I am an excellent museum date! I can’t wait to bring you all along and show you one of my favorite museums in the world. Please join us and support our ongoing efforts to bring Smithsonian-caliber museum exhibits to our local community.” Tickets are $55 per person. Registration is required.
