Join us on September 24th as we welcome the German Army Band to the National Museum of the Marine Corps for a 90 minute performance. The group will perform in front of the Museum on the parade deck starting at 1:30PM. As a musical ambassador of the German Federal Armed Forces, the band that is stationed in Ulm the metropolis on the Danube, has been thrilling its audiences for more than half a century. At the same time, it also represents the Federal Republic at numerous events abroad. Its fifty musicians of the symphonic wind orchestra, all of them with academic training strive to entertain their public with their virtuosity, the sonority of the band and their professional appearance, and they want to arouse the curiosity of their audiences in the multifaceted qualities of this organization. Established in 1956, the band was subordinate to HQ 10th Tank Division for years when it became assigned to the Joint Support Service in 2013. Since that time, it performs under the designation “German Army Band Ulm”. Its musical director and leader has been Lieutenant Colonel Matthias Prock as of January 2012. The Museum will remain open during the performance. Stop by early to explore the historical galleries, see our signature film "We, the Marines" in the Medal of Honor Theater, test your aim on our laser simulated rifle range, grab a souvenir from the Museum gift shop or grab a bite to eat at Tun Tavern. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the concert. Tun Tavern will offer a themed menu for the weekend: -Guinness Brat served on a Pretzel Roll and topped with Sauerkraut -Potato and Cheddar Pierogi served with Caramelized Onion Dip -Bavarian Pretzel served with Beer Mustard and Cheese Sauce -German Chocolate Cake -Apple Pie topped with Caramel Sauce and Gluhwein Dark Raisins This is a non-ticket, FREE event that is open to the public. No base access required.
