Description
Virginia and the ERA: Women's Activism Inside and Outside the Legislature
Speakers: Delegate Elizabeth Guzman, Senator Jennifer McClellan, and Mrs. Holly Huddle
Are women guaranteed the same rights as men under the U.S. Constitution?
Hear the different perspectives on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). It was sent to the states in 1972 for ratification. Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the amendment in January 2020; however, it has yet to become part of the Constitution. Topics include the historical context of the ERA; why it took Virginia almost 50 years to sign on; and how individuals can get involved.
