Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator
Matern Staffing is hiring an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator for a fire-retardant treated wood (FRTW) plant in Bowling Green, VA, where you'll help shape a culture of safety and environmental responsibility that supports the building industry.
In this critical role, you'll lead initiatives to proactively eliminate risks, ensure compliance, and enhance employee training and retention. Success will be measured by reduced incidents, improved retention, and higher employee engagement, all while contributing to the bigger picture of delivering safer, more sustainable materials to their customers.
Salary:
- $22.50-$30/hr

Schedule:
- Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 5 pm (10 hr days with OT pay)
What You’ll Do:
- Lead EHS training programs for all employees across the plant
- Lead and assess safety trainings for new hires inclusive of “safety walks”, hands-on trainings, daily communications for first 45 days
- Verify all hands-on training has been completed and updated on the OSHA Refresher report
- Track, monitor, and report plant injuries and illnesses
- Assist HR with all safety incident investigations to include root cause analysis
- Regularly inspect equipment, machinery, and supplies to ensure safe working conditions
- Collaborate with Plant Safety Committee and Corporate Leadership on safety and environment improvement processes and requirements
- Complete required environmental inspections, ensuring compliance with all environmental rules and regulations
- Provide feedback and reports to Plant Leadership and Corporate contacts
What You'll Need:
- BS/BA in Safety, Environmental or a related field required
- Previous experience with increasing responsibilities in safety and environmental programs in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated success in identifying, controlling, reducing, and eliminating exposures and environmental impacts
- Exceptional verbal and written skills for communicating effectively with individuals across all levels of an organization and customers
- Calmly and efficiently adapts to changing priorities and sees the potential for opportunity when challenges present themselves
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with a track record of proactive problem resolution
