Facility & Maintenance Technician
Matern Staffing is hiring a Facility & Maintenance Technician to support the busy operations of nonprofit retail stores in the Greater Fredericksburg, VA.
As a Facility & Maintenance Technician you'll use your problem-solving skills and knowledge of mechanical workings to manage and perform all installation, repair, and upkeep operations of the company’s equipment and facilities. You'll also provide strategic recommendations to improve equipment output, maintain excellent safety standards, and follow best practices. In this hands-on role, you’ll enjoy working to prevent and solve equipment issues, knowing your expertise helps keep operations running smoothly and supports the nonprofit’s mission.
This is a direct hire position.
Salary:
- $60,000-$65,000/yr

Schedule:
- The role typically involves a standard 40-hour workweek, but may require flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs. Occasional on-call work may be required for emergency maintenance situations.
What You'll Do as a Facility & Maintenance Technician:
- Oversee and perform building repairs and maintenance across all locations
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment for operational efficiency, reporting deficiencies and repairs
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical, plumbing, and carpentry systems
- Coordinate external contractors for specialized repairs, inspect work quality, and report findings
- Review service contracts to ensure compliance with service levels
- Monitor safety standards and adherence to policies, including lock-out/tag-out, and report violations
- Maintain inventory of supplies and process forms and purchase orders promptly
What You'll Need:
- At least 5 years of experience in building maintenance in at least two of the following trade disciplines: plumbing, mechanical repair, electrical, and/or carpentry
- Active certification in building maintenance in at least two of the following trade disciplines: plumbing, mechanical repair, MCET, HVAC, electrical, and/or carpentry
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass driving and criminal background check
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills for monitoring metrics and adjusting strategies accordingly
- Positive self-starter with a proactive approach, excellent time management, and prioritization skills
- Ability to continuously stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, carry, push, pull, and lift objects up to 75 pounds and operate machinery
- Ability to move frequently throughout the workday within a building and between job sites, indoors and outdoors. This includes walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs or ladders, and balancing on uneven surfaces
