Applications Engineer
Matern Staffing is hiring an Applications Engineer for a leading designer and manufacturer of automated systems in Fredericksburg, VA. The Applications Engineer will be a trusted partner among staff, departments, vendors and customers as they work together to solve and deliver the customers’ automated system needs.
As an Applications Engineer, you’ll manage the technical and sales aspects of projects, from initial quotes to final order preparation, ensuring smooth operations and customer satisfaction throughout the process.
This is a direct hire, in-office position. Relocation package is available!
Salary:
- $75,000 to $110,000/yr

What You’ll Do:
- Quotes and supports the sale of material handling systems to current and potential customers
- Reviews project specifications and selects appropriate machines and systems
- Works with engineering and legal departments to prepare accurate and compliant project proposals
- Contacts suppliers for pricing and technical information, negotiates better pricing when possible, and uses a CRM system to manage project information
- Provides validated order hand-offs to project management, ensuring accurate conversion to SAP and attending order entry meetings
- Uses tools like AutoCad to prepare or oversee the preparation of technical drawings for quotations
- Creates cost sheets to illustrate sales and profit margins and produces project schedules to support quotations
- Maintains quality relationships with customers throughout the sales process and participates in sales presentations, on-site visits, etc
- Maintains the quotation system and current vendor pricing information
- Understands and estimates pricing for installation services
- Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
- Attends trade shows and conferences
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in related field of study or equivalent work experience
- Previous project management related experience
- Previous experience in Senior Engineering role
- Previous experience in plastics manufacturing
- Exceptional verbal and written skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals across all levels of an organization and clients
- Excellent organization, time management and prioritization skills, with a track record of proactive problem resolution
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and ERP Systems
