RAPPAHANNOCK UNITED WAY DONOR ENGAGEMENT
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
RUW is seeking an extroverted professional who excels at relationship-building. A great candidate will feel confident communicating with community members, business leaders, and local government officials throughout the Fredericksburg region. Opportunities to engage donors will take place through the planning of special events, applying for grant funding, and fundraising campaigns. The key requirement for Donor Engagement is the ability to recruit, retain, and grow relationships.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt (F/T)
WORK SCHEDULE: Core Office Hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule with the possibility of early mornings, evenings, and weekends at RUW’s office space, virtually, and throughout Fredericksburg City and the counties of King George, Caroline, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grants
- Uses grant software to write and complete successful grant applications, review, and reporting
- Supports grant and proposal writing to bring corporate, foundation, local, state and federal grant resources to RUW programs, initiatives, and general operations
- Collaborates with Community Impact (CI), Resource Development (RD), and Finance team members to research, identify, request, manage and report on grant revenues year-round
Corporate Relationships
- Create and manage annual workplace giving and local government campaign plans and timetable, employing a fundraising process that sets goals and helps identify volunteer leadership
- Organize an annual campaign structure that responds to an ever-changing employee workplace offering maximum campaign potential
- Design and implement training programs for Campaign Coordinators and other RD volunteers
- Ensure a written strategy for all campaigns and campaign segments
- Recruit, retain and grow corporate sponsorships and workplace giving donor base
- Ensure account data is accurate and information is collected, recorded and distributed accurately and in a timely manner
- Partner with Communications to ensure RUW’s brand strategy is integrated into campaign plan and execution
- Assist with development, ordering, and distribution of campaign materials to include producing an organizational video
- Analyze campaign results and conduct annual campaign critique meeting
- Maintain current knowledge of community political, social and economic factors that may affect the campaign
- Work collaboratively with other RUW teams to provide appropriate support and value to partners
- Leverage relationships to create additional opportunities with other organizations and individuals
- Cultivate community support for United Way by maintaining contact with local organizations, businesses and individuals
Individual Giving / Major Giving
- Lead volunteers and build strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key individual donors that increase RUW revenue
- Conduct face-to-face meetings with current individual donors and prospects in order to expand United Way’s influence and revenue
General Departmental Support
- Participates in planning and execution of special fundraising events, to include data entry, report generation, event set-up and breakdown, solicitation and tracking of sponsors, partnering with Communications to create marketing materials
- Assists with any tasks deemed necessary to achieve overall goals and to contribute to the success of the RD department.
EDUCATIONAL PREREQUISITES:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required

- Must have the use of a reliable vehicle for transportation to outside meetings
- Must have reliable technology that allows use of email and internet outside of the office
- Must be able to build relationships in the community area in-person and virtually
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE PREFERENCES:
- Between 1 to 3 years of prior relevant work experience
- Experience fundraising or proven sales history
- Experience working with grantors, nonprofits and / or academic institutions
- Experience working with databases/CRM
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
Requires sitting for long periods of time at a computer and keyboarding for up to 7 hours a day. Requires the ability to multi-task between program duties and various volunteer site locations throughout the community. Typically lifts program files, supplies, computer equipment and storage boxes of 25-50 lbs.
- Requires time away from the office, traveling by car, walking, and climbing stairs
- Requires the ability to multi-task between workplace campaign, individual giving, meetings, special events, and strategic thinking
- Requires mental toughness to overcome objections and rejections in asks
- Requires typing, data entry and data reporting for customer relationship management
- Requires presence during noncore hours and a consistent relationship-building attitude
- Typically lifts campaign materials of 25-50 lbs consistently from August to December and during special events
- Requires physical presence in the community

Pay: $42,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
