As AVLD continues to expand its commercial audiovisual integration capabilities, we are seeking an experienced AV Systems Engineer / Lead Integrator to support the engineering and implementation of integrated audiovisual systems. The ideal candidate combines strong systems engineering knowledge with practical field experience and is comfortable taking a project from an approved scope and equipment schedule through detailed engineering, installation, programming, commissioning, documentation, and customer turnover.
Key Responsibilities:
? Systems Engineering & Design
? Review and validate proposed audiovisual system architecture, equipment schedules, and scope prior to procurement.
? Develop detailed system drawings, including signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, cable schedules, device schedules, network requirements, and installation details.
? Identify missing components, design conflicts, infrastructure requirements, and potential change-order conditions before installation begins.
? Coordinate system requirements with AVLD project leadership, customer stakeholders, Information Technology teams, facilities personnel, and other trades.
? System Programming & Integration
? Engineer and configure system management devices
? Develop control programming and user interfaces for intuitive day-to-day system operation.
? Configure source selection, video routing, audio mixing, presets, room modes, and system automation.
? Integrate third-party systems and devices into the control environment as required.
? Develop and maintain programming and configuration backups for final project turnover.
? Network & Enterprise AV
? Coordinate network requirements to coexist within an existing infrastructure
? Coordinate & configure VLANs
? Maintain accurate record keeping
? Installation Leadership
? Provide technical direction to AV installation technicians
? Equipment rack fabrication, cabling, termination, equipment mounting, projection installation, camera installation, and final system integration.
? Verify field installation against approved drawings and engineering documentation.
? Troubleshoot unforeseen site conditions and develop practical solutions without compromising system performance, installation standards or customer confidence.
? Maintain professional installation practices including labeling, cable management, documentation, testing, and quality control.
? Testing & Commissioning
? Develop and execute complete system testing and commissioning procedures.
? Tune and optimize system performance.
? Troubleshoot and resolve system deficiencies prior to customer acceptance.
? Develop and manage final punch-list items through completion.
? Documentation & Customer Turnover
? Produce accurate as-built drawings and final system documentation.
? Provide equipment schedules, cable schedules, IP/MAC address schedules, configuration records, and system backups.
? Lead customer demonstrations and end-user training.
? Provide technical administrator training when required.
Required Skills / Qualifications / Experience
? Proven experience engineering, programming, installing, and commissioning commercial audiovisual systems.
? Strong hands-on experience with control programming, and user interface development.
? Experience with network video and AV-over-IP system architecture.
? Strong understanding of enterprise networking principles including VLANs, multicast, QoS, PoE, IP addressing, and managed network switches.
? Ability to read and produce audiovisual signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, installation drawings, and system documentation.
? Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
? Ability to independently review an existing design, identify deficiencies, and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
? Excellent communication and customer interaction skills.
? Ability to effectively coordinate with IT departments, facilities personnel, general contractors, electricians, and other trades.
? Ability to lead installation technicians while remaining willing and capable of performing hands-on field work when required.
? Certifications are preferred but not required. Demonstrated experience successfully delivering comparable systems will be strongly considered in lieu of certifications.
This position is initially a project-based contract position, with onsite work required in the Washington, DC / Maryland / Virginia region.
Compensation is commensurate with experience and demonstrated technical capability. Starting rate is $45hr with consideration for higher rates for candidates demonstrating advanced engineering, programming, and commissioning experience.
