About Us
RIVERE Ecological Center is a Fredericksburg-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit building a regional hub for the people and organizations working to protect the Rappahannock River and strengthen the communities it sustains.
Planned for the historic Embrey Power Station site, the Center will bring scientists, educators, nonprofits, government agencies, ecopreneurs, students, and residents together under one roof. RIVERE is designed to support the work of others, not replace it, providing shared space for watershed research, environmental education, ecological innovation, and community engagement.
Plans include coworking and collaboration space, immersive learning environments, river access for hands-on education and water quality monitoring, trails, and a native plant garden. Through the SmartRiver initiative, RIVERE is also working to make the Rappahannock the first "Smart River" from headwaters to the bay.
An independent Chmura Economics study projects that, when fully operational, the Center will generate $37.8 million in average annual economic impact in the region, support 208 jobs each year, and engage thousands of K-12 students annually.
