Serving 80 women, children and men at any given time, the Brisben Center is Greater Fredericksburg, VA community’s largest emergency and restoration shelter in the four county area. The Center contains separate sleeping areas (dormitories) for single men and single women and eight individual family rooms with 32 beds. It also has a large community gathering space and dining area, computer lab, family activity room, outdoor playground, basketball court, meditation room, clothes closet, full commercial kitchen, Washington Redskins Loads of Love laundry room, and programs that result in increased employment income, links with supportive services, and successful re-housing.
Three new projects are increasing the strength and vitality of the Center and its residents:
(1) energy efficiency and cost-reducing improvements including; HVAC upgrades,, solar power, LED lighting and weatherproofing, and more;
(2) Improving the nutrition of children and families, equipping them with skills and tools via the UCAN program (Understanding Cooking and Nutrition
(3) Helping residents to discover and apply their strengths and aspirations for long term financial and housing success with evidence-based programming Mobility Mentoring informed coaching.
For over 32 years, the Brisben Center has been the 24X7, 365 go-to resource for homeless services in the region.
