Electrical Engineer (Manufacturing)
Matern Staffing is hiring an Electrical Engineer (Manufacturing) for a global defense technology company in Stafford, VA. As a Manufacturing Engineer - Electrical, you’ll use your electrical engineering background to support New Product Introduction (NPI), refine production workflows, and guide cross-functional teams through technical challenges.
In this role, you’ll bridge the gap between electrical design and production to ensure manufacturing processes for electrical and electro-mechanical systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with product requirements.
This is a direct hire role requiring applicants to live within a 30-minute commute of the Stafford office.
U.S. citizenship and international travel availability are required due to client/government contract requirements.
Salary:
$105,000-$115,000/yr
What You’ll Do:
New Product Introduction (NPI) Support
- Collaborate with R&D, electrical design, and supply chain teams to transition products from development to production
- Develop and validate manufacturing and electrical test processes for new products, including test stations, fixtures, and assembly methods
- Participate in design reviews for electronic systems
Technical Data Package (TDP) Support
- Interpret and clarify electrical schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and specifications for internal teams and suppliers
- Ensure all electrical documentation is complete, accurate, and production-ready
Process Engineering
- Define, develop and optimize electrical assembly and test processes for PCBAs electro-mechanical systems
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for electrical production issues
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with electical engineering, procurement, quality, and supplier engineering teams to ensure alignment on technical requirements
- Support supplier onboarding and qualification for electrical and PCBA components
- Collaborate with design and R&D teams to ensure the manufacture of new products
What You’ll Need:
- U.S. citizenship and international travel availability are required due to client/government contract requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), or Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering with strong electrical experience
- 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in electronics, PCBAs, or electro-mechanical systems
- Strong understanding of NPI processes, DFM and DFT principles
- Proficiency interpreting schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and BOMs
- Proficiency in CAD and ECAD tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD) and manufacturing systems (e.g., PDM/PLM tools such as Autodesk Vault, SolidyWorks PDM)
- Experience working with suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of IPC standards and electronics manufacturing best practices
- Hands-on experience with assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience with soldering, rework, electronics troubleshooting
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations and compliance testing
- Lean Six Sigma certification or similar process improvement training
